Former Hastings resident, Velma V. 'Punk' Smith, 74, of 511 N. 8th Street, Marysville, Kansas, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Community Memorial Health Care, Marysville, Kansas.

Rosary will be Wednesday, May 14, 2003; 7:00 P.M. at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 15, 2003; 11:00 A.M. at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Gregory's Catholic Church Cemetery, Marysville, Kansas.

Velma V. 'Punk' Smith was born June 11, 1928 in Hastings, Nebraska to Henry D. & Helena O. (Theesen) Stamer. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1945 and married Peter A. Smith on November 20, 1947 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1981. She was a homemaker and also a telephone operator. They moved from Hastings to Marysville, Kansas in September of 1972. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She joined the Railroad Trainman Auxiliary, now Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union, on November 20, 1951 and received her 50 year pin. She was a past president for the auxiliary. Velma was a seamstress, enjoyed bowling, gardening and caring for her family. She was an avid Kansas State football fan.

Velma V. 'Punk' Smith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Peter A. Smith, sister, Josephine Park and an infant brother, Henry Stamer.
