Venla Hallberg

Hastings resident, Venla Hallberg, 69, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009 of natural causes at her residence, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, October 24, 2009; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be Monday, October 26, 2009; 10:00 A.M. in Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, October, 23, 2009; 2:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Venla was born March 4, 1940 in Norman, Nebraska to Hans & Ruth (Johnson) Nielsen. She graduated from Holdrege High School. She married Kjell Hallberg in 1961, and had two daughters. They lived in New Mexico, Arizona, and Sweden prior to returning to Nebraska. She completed her Associates Degree in Human Services at Central Community College. She worked as a psychiatric technician at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital for 20 years prior to retiring. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Venla was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Violette Preitauer, Phyllis Labart, and Iola Rhone; brother, Wesley Nielsen.
