Vera Roesch

Hastings resident, Vera E. Roesch, 97, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Monday, July 11, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Falls City with Pastor Andrew Chavanak officiating. Burial will be in Steele Cemetery, Falls City, Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, July 10, 2011; 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. with family present at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home in Falls City, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Falls City, Nebraska.

Vera was born July 19, 1913 at the family homestead one mile north of Highway 24 on Schuster Road near Levasy, Missouri to John H. & Emelia (Luetkemeyer) Schuster. She graduated from Levasy High School and then attended Missouri Valley College at Marshall, Missouri. Vera married Norman (Bud) Thornton on February 27, 1937. They moved to Falls City, Nebraska in May of 1940. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1950. Vera married Edgar Roesch at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Falls City, Nebraska on April 2, 1960. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2000. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 2009. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Women's Circle in Falls City, Nebraska. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile-Naphis Temple #66; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #234, where she served as the Worthy Matron and held other offices; P.E.O. Chapter CY; charter member of the Heritage Club of the First National Bank; lifetime member of the Richardson County Historical Society; member and past President of Athenaeum; and Sorosis.

Vera Roesch was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Morris, Bertha Wynn, and Verna Hawkins; and brother, Raymond Schuster.
