Vergale Jensen

Hastings resident, Vergale Leslie Jensen, 95, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Monday, November 7, 2016; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2016; 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Vergale was born June 26, 1921 in Minden, Nebraska to Christian & Ellen (Rundquist) Jensen. He graduated from Minden High School and Nebraska College of Commerce in Hastings. Vergale served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a multi-engine pilot from July 25, 1942 until December 30, 1945 in the China-Burma-India Theater. He received five Air Medals and three Distinguished Flying Crosses. Vergale married Marguerite Eigenberg on December 15, 1942 in Minden.

He was employed by Central Community College in Hastings as a heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration instructor; where he later retired. Vergale was also in charge of the K N Energy service training program through Central Community College. He worked in the heating and air conditioning field for forty-two years. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1346, Eagles Aerie #592, American Legion Post #11, Disabled American Veterans, Confederate Air Force, ARC, AARP, Historical Society, UCT, and the Blue Flame Gas Association. Vergale and Marguerite helped start and operate the Hope Training School in Hastings. He was a NASCAR and Cornhusker football fan.

Vergale was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Milrae Nelson Wirsig; and granddaughter, Jenni Keith.
