Vernon Kehn

Hastings resident, Vernon George Kehn, 77, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home.

Memorial Services will be Friday, January 11, 2013; 2:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Vernon George Kehn was born July 3, 1935 at 511 South Lexington Avenue in Hastings, Nebraska to George & Amalia "Mollie" (Kister) Kehn. He attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in June 1953 where he was involved in drama and choir. He worked at Red and White Market from June 1950 to July 1953. He then went to work for Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co. Inc. on July 6, 1953, retiring on February 29, 1992. He married Joan Beverly Heglin on June 5, 1954 in Clay Center, Nebraska at the Christian Church, from this union three children were born. They transferred to Colby, Kansas in October 1955 after working at Atwood and Tribune, Kansas for several months. They were transferred back to Hastings on December 19, 1979. He spent his entire career working in the Corrosion Control Department. He was a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), Elks Club and Eagles in Hastings. He also was a past member of Southern Hills Golf Course and Chorus of the Plains. He loved golfing, bowling, and playing board games with the children. He loved to read, do crosswords, work in the yard and was proud of his yard and especially his roses. He loved being with the family and the grandkids. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, George & Mollie Kehn; sister, Dorothy Rader; and brother, Jack Kehn.
