Hastings resident, Vincent Vandewalle, 90, of 113 East 7th Street, died Monday, January 29, 2007 at Perkins Pavilion.

Rosary will be Wednesday, January 31, 2007; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 1, 2007; 9:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra & Father Matthew Vandewalle officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Campbell, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 30, 2007; 5PM-9PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2007; 9AM-9PM at Butler-Volland Funeral Home & Thursday, February 1, 2007 1 hr. prior to service at the church.

Mr. Vandewalle was born August 24, 1916 in Albion, Nebraska to Constantine & Mary (Brennan) Vandewalle. He attended school in Albion, Nebraska, graduating in 1934. Upon graduation, he helped his parents farm. In 1936, he moved to California, working in the Borax mines. In 1940, he went to work for Lockheed aircraft, building airplanes for WWII. He entered the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 and served as a flight engineer on B17 bombers in pilot training missions. He was discharged from military service on January 30, 1946. He returned home to Petersburg, Nebraska to resume farming with his parents. Vince married Arzella (Soucie) Choquette on June 24, 1972, becoming a husband, father and grandfather all in the same day. He and his wife farmed land by Petersburg, Nebraska until 1980, when they sold the farm and moved to Hastings, Nebraska. He worked at Thermo King until retirement in 1987. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

Mr. Vandewalle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James, Constantine & Bernard Vandewalle; daughter Lucinda Choquette & grandson Jeremy Olnes.
