Former Hastings resident, Viola Moyer Freed, 84, of Yakima, Washington, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 in Portland, Oregon.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral on August 17, 2007. Inurnment will be in All Souls Chapel, Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, both in Hastings, Nebrfaska.
Mrs. Freed was born October 1, 1922 in Crawford, Nebraska. Vi graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1943, where she was affiliated with Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She taught high school History and English at Geneva and Platte Center, Nebraska. In 1947, she married Harry Freed and settled in Hastings, where Harry worked for the J.M. McDonald Company. They lived in Hastings for 54 years, where she raised their three children. She was active in Chapter G of PEO, volunteered for Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and was an active member of Saint Mark's Women's Guild. She discovered a love of mountain hiking and explored many miles of trails with Harry. In 2002, she and Harry moved to Yakima, Washington to be near their children.
Mrs. Freed was preceded in death by parents and her elder son, Jeffrey.
