Violet Thayer

Former Hastings resident, Violet Thayer, 82, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services will be Tuesday, April 27, 2010; 10:00 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings, with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be in Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, April 25, 2010; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Monday, April 26, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Violet Thayer to the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska located at 2300 W. Capitol Avenue, Grand Island, Nebraska 68803.

Violet was born April 19, 1928 in Spring Ranch, Nebraska to Steven & Anna (Pierce) White. She attended school in Deweese, Nebraska. On February 21, 1959 she married Melvin Thayer in Hastings. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2006. She worked as a laundry aide for Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tabitha Society and Adult Bible Study. Violet loved to play bingo, do crossword puzzles, and attended church. She was very active in the Lady's Tabitha Society.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Thayer; brothers and sisters.
