Virginia was born December 9, 1926, north of Roseland in Adams County, Nebraska to John J. and Agnes M. (Gerten) Schiefelbein. She attended grade school at Silver Lake District 10 and graduated from Roseland High School as salutatorian in 1944. She then attended Hastings College and returned to the area to teach at Adams County Districts 30 and 39 for eight years. Virginia married Laurence Michael (Mike) Trausch on July 6, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland. This union was blessed with five sons. Together with her husband they owned and operated Trausch's Grocery & Locker and Trausch's Café. Virginia was an excellent cook and catered many delicious meals in the restaurant business. As the lifeblood of Trausch's Store & Café in downtown Roseland from 1949-2002, she greatly treasured all the support of her customers, loving friendships and shared memories. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, Catholic faith, playing the organ, sing-a-longs at family reunions, polka music, game shows and an occasional card game. She also served as a Cub Scout leader, clerk of the Roseland Village, and was a member of the Roseland Community Club. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, the altar society, and taught CCD. On April 18, 2003, Virginia received the Apostolic Blessing from Saint (Pope) John Paul II for over 60 years of service as organist at Sacred Heart Church.
