Virginia was born April 3, 1927 in Ragan, Nebraska to Noland and Elva Burns. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1945. After completing over 65 years with the K-Mart Corporation and working in several different cities, she retired at age 82 as Store Manager from the Grand Forks, North Dakota location, a place she was for over 30 years. Her passion and love for what she did was evident in her longevity with the corporation. A highlight of her time at K-Mart was the Socks for Kids program she helped launch, alongside another businessman. The program focuses on children in need, helping make their Christmas a little brighter. As with all programs, it started small, but today, 28 years later, it supports over 500 children and has raised over 1 million dollars! After her retirement, she continued to be involved with the program volunteering her time, a true highlight, something she looked forward to! She also enjoyed traveling with her son Greg to see family and friends and to attend baseball games, primarily the Minnesota Twins. She was known by friends and family as a very hardworking, loving and giving person.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Yager; parents, Noland and Elva Burns; brother, Paul Burns; sister, Pauline Miller; husband, Gordon; and nephew, Noland Gene Burns.
