Viva Trausch

Hastings resident, Viva D. 'Vi' Trausch, 81, of 621 Lane C., Good Samaritan Village, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Thursday, May 26, 2005; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 27, 2005; 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, all in Hastings, Nebraska.

Mrs. Trausch was born July 22, 1923 in Hastings, Nebraska to Ralph Wesley & Leona V. (Rounds) Mays. She graduated from Roseland High School, Roseland, Nebraska. On July 9, 1941, she married Darrell C. Trausch and he preceded her in death in March of 1976. She was seamstress and also was Director of Housekeeping & Laundry for 45 years at the Hastings Regional Center, retiring in 1990. She joined NAILM (National Association of Institutional Laundry Managers) in 1970 as a charter member of the Nebraska Chapter. She held every office in the Nebraska Chapter from president to treasurer. She was honored by the Nebraska Chapter on three separate occasions as that chapter's Manager of the Year. In the early seventies, her desire to prepare herself for a career in laundry management led her to the newly formed American Laundry and Linen College. She personally provided her own tuition and expenses for most of all three parts and graduated in 1979 as a member of the first graduating class of the ALLC. She served as a member of the American Laundry and Linen College Staff and as chairperson of the ALLC Scholarship Program. In addition, she served as a NAILM District Director. Her hobbies included sewing, dancing and travel. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Auxiliaries of the V.F. W. , D.A.V. and Eagles.

Mrs. Trausch was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Darrell, two sisters, Grace Schmitz & Lois Dubberly and two brothers, Clayton Mays & Clyde 'Todd' Mays.

Memorial may be given to St. Michael's (Masses) or Nebraska Cancer Society
