Hastings resident, Wallace Glen Jorgenson, 70, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services with Masonic services following will be Thursday, July 24, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Mary Lanning Hospice, Rite Care Clinic, Overland Trails Council, and Boy Scouts of America.
Wallace Glen Jorgenson was born at Mary Lanning Hospital on June 12, 1944 to George Hanson & Wave Madeline (Ozmun) Jorgenson and was called home by our Heavenly Father on July 20, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion. Glen attended Longfellow Grade School and graduated from Hastings Senior High in 1962. In high school, Glen was active in band and enjoyed marching at the University Band Days in Lincoln. He also was on the bowling team, and belonged to "The Ushers" group. Glen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hastings for over 55 years. He was confirmed in May 1958. Glen served on several boards and ushered for many years. Glen joined Cub Scouts at age of eight and became an Eagle Scout in 1962. He also earned the Wood Badge in 1974 and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He continued working with Scouts as Assistant Scout Master for Explorer Post No. 192 at the Methodist Church from 1967 to 1995. He then served on the Committee from 1996 to 2005. Glen served as a Council Commissioner on the Executive Board for Overland Trails from 1986 to 2012. Glen started working for Pittsburgh Glass right after high school as clerk and then as Assistant Manager, and worked there for 20 years until it closed. Dave Rutt and Glen bought the store and ran it for ten years, until it closed in 1992. Glen was employed at Metz Baking Company for a short time. He also worked at Business World Products in Grand Island until it closed. With his cousin Warren, they owned and operated G & W saw and tool sharpening business. He drove the Book Mobile for Hastings Public Library until 1996, when he started at the Masonic Center as Recorder for Tehama Shrine. He served as Recorder until the time of his illness. He also served as Secretary of Hastings Lodge #50, Secretary of Scottish Rite and Office Manager for the Masonic Center. Glen is a member of Acacia Chapter No. 39, Order of the Eastern Star. Glen was a member of Lions Club. He served as President of the evening club before transferring to the noon club. Glen served as Director of the Hastings Jaycees in 1972-1975. Glen was a member of the UCT (United Commercial Travelers), where he served as Secretary for many years, and served twice as Grand Commander. Glen was a former member of 4 Rivers Gun Club and received many trophies. Along with his cousin Warren Ozmun, one year they were named Sportsmen of the year. Glen was a kind and caring person and very community minded. He was respected by many. The nurses said, "He was an ideal patient."
