Hastings resident, Walter L. Golden, 90, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, March 25, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will be Friday, March 25, 2011; 2:30 P.M. in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2011; 9:00 A.M. until service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Village.
Walter was born to Willie L. & Vella Mae (Seaman) Golden on January 15, 1921 in Thayer County, Nebraska. He grew up on various farms in Nebraska and Missouri. He moved to Hastings with his family in 1939 where he graduated from Hastings High School. After high school he immediately entered the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II and then returned to Hastings. He moved to Iowa and the Pacific Northwest for awhile, then returned to Hastings and worked servicing diesel engines for the Burlington Railroad. He retired in 1986, and spent many quiet years raising vegetable gardens until his health failed and he moved to Good Samaritan.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Richard, and Tommy; and three sisters, Viola Krovance, Doris Collingham, and Wilma Lehn.
