Wendell Valentine

Hastings resident, Wendell Wayne Valentine, 82, of 1531 Westwood Terrace, died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at his home.

Services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2006; 2:30 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church west of Glenvil, with Rev. Larry Handeland officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, 2006; Noon to 9 P.M., Wednesday, October 25, 2006; 9A.M. to Noon at BVFH & 1 hr. prior to service time at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil. Memorials to the family.

Mr. Valentine was born August 4, 1924 in Pauline, Nebraska to Herman & Maria (Johnson ) Valentine. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil. He attended Harris Knoll School south of Glenvil, Nebraska. He also participated in 4-H club. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the Tank Battalion from January 1, 1951 to October 1, 1951. After the war, he returned to the farm. He was united in marriage to Helen Nauenburg on September 24, 1950 at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska. He served on many boards including; Farmers Union, Fairfield Cemetery Board, Fairfield Non-Stock Coop, Church Council and Clay County Extension. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #256, Fairfield, Nebraska where he was club manager for five years. He served as Carville Star for the State of Nebraska through 40 and 8. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Eagles. He also participated in bowling for several years. He worked for Pioneer Seeds for several years after his retirement.

Mr. Valentine was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Lucy Valentine, brother, Herman Valentine and a sister, Lavon Hohlen.
