Wes was born in a farmhouse just north of Hastings, Nebraska on October 2, 1925 to Herman & Emma (Hagemeister) Mohling. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1943. Wes was united in marriage on February 1, 1948 to Dorothy Mae Stromer at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, Nebraska. Wes lived his entire life in Adams County and in his early years he was a trucker and did custom baling. He farmed his entire life. In 1972, he built a hog confinement unit, which operated until late in 1991. In the mid 1950's he sponsored the Rural Youth Group for many years. He started calling square dances in 1957 and continued doing so for 53 years. He called all over the State of Nebraska as well as in northern Kansas for numerous square dance clubs. In 1964, he started the Westernaires Square Dance Club, which is still active today. He spent more than 30 years calling for the Girl Scouts and their dads, which gave him great satisfaction to see the smiles on the young girls faces as they danced with their dads. He was a member of the Nebraska State Square and Round Dance Association, Legacy, Prairie Conclave, Callerlab, and the Nebraska Square Dance Callers and Cuer Association. In 2002, he was asked to call a square dance in Mexico City at Mexico's annual worldwide Folklore Summit Dance Festival. He also enjoyed going to antique machinery sales and shows as well as collecting antique machinery. Wes was a lifetime member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
