Former Hastings resident, Wilbur B. Jorgensen, 97, died Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Blue Hill Care Center, in Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012; 10:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. at Osco Cemetery, near Minden, Nebraska. There will be visitation on Sunday, January 1, 2012; 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M, Monday, January 2,, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Osco Cemetery Association.

Wilbur B. Jorgensen was born May 25, 1914 near Norman, Nebraska, to Harry and Mary (Andersen) Jorgensen. His mother died when he was five days old. He spent the first two years of this life with his Andersen grandparents in Racine, Wisconsin. He returned to the Osco community in rural Kearney County and was raised there. He attended Upland High School. He then attended National School in Los Angeles, California, studying the automotive/machinist trade. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 4, 1942 to October 18, 1945, serving in the South Pacific Theater. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Nebraska. Wilbur married June Reed on June 9, 1946 at her parent's home near Holstein, Nebraska; she preceded him in death on September 18, 2008. He owned his own auto repair shop in Minden, Nebraska before moving to Hastings in 1952. After moving to Hastings, he worked at Sidles Company, Pickett Motor, Gessford Automotive Repair, and Hastings Utilities. He was a 58 year member of the First Presbyterian Church. He served as a Deacon and participated in Mariners and various men's activities. He was also a member of the American Legion, Midwest Lodge #317 A.F. & A.M., and Hastings Scottish Rite Bodies.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; step-mother, Emily Jorgensen; one sister, Thurza Nelson; one brother, Gail Jorgensen; one brother-in-law, Gale Reed; and nephew, Larry Nelson.
