William Barry, Sr

March 10, 1913 — July 24, 2001

Rural Hastings resident, William M. 'Bill' Barry, Sr., of 88, 8535 N. Marion Rd, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Good Samaritan Center, Wood River, Nebraska.

Rosary service will be Friday, July 27, 2001; 7:30 P.M. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Doniphan, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 28, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Father Steve Major officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

William M. 'Bill' Barry, Sr. was born March 10, 1913 in Blair, Nebraska to Thomas & Lillian (Pontzius) Barry. He moved to Hastings, in 1919 and graduated from Hastings High School in 1931. In 1935, he married Lois McKenna at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, Nebraska. The couple then resided near Lebanon, Kansas until 1939 when they moved back to Hastings. In 1942, they moved to rural Hastings, where they farmed until his retirement in 1976. Bill was an avid violin player and played for Vaudeville Shows, radio shows as well as the Hastings Symphony for many years. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps after graduating from high school and was stationed in Oregon and South Dakota. He was also a member of the Nebraska National Guard for several years and also was substitute rural mail carrier for several years. He served as a board member for several years for the Pontious Family Association. Bill was devoted to his church and his family and was a lector for St. Patrick's and St. Ann's Church since 1964.

William M. 'Bill' Barry, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter , 2 granddaughters and 1 great granddaughter, 3 brothers and two sisters.

34 Great Grandchildren Sister: Arline Merrill - Irvine, CA Numerous nieces & nephews

Memorial maybe given to St. Ann's Catholic Church or Crosier Fathers

Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
