Hastings resident, William B. 'Bill' Vaughan,82, of 1222 No. St. Joseph, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at BryanLGH Medical Center West, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Services will be Saturday, February 26, 2005; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. William Deahl, Jr. officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Mr. Vaughan was born March 24, 1922 in Marcus, Iowa to Byron B & Opal (Brookley) Vaughan. He moved with his family at an early age to Blue Hill, Nebraska, where he graduated from Blue Hill High School. He was a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps, flying C-47's, serving in the military from July 2, 1942 to February 25, 1946. On March 16, 1947, he married Evadne L. Lonnquist at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He received his bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and Mathematics in 1947 from Hastings College. He and his brother, Tom, became commercial printers with their father Byron at the Blue Hill Leader, later moving Vaughans' Printers Inc. to Hastings in 1958. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mid-West Lodge 317 A.F. & A.M. , 33rd Degree Scottish Rite, Tehama Temple Shrine, Rotary and Nebraska Press Association.
Mr. Vaughan was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Charles Vaughan.
