William Gettmann

William F. Gettmann, 93, of 830 N. Pine Ave, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services with Masonic Rites will be Wednesday, May 21, 2003; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

William F. Gettmann was born December 11, 1909 in Hastings, Nebraska to John K. & Marie B. (Frick) Gettmann. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1929. On July 16, 1932, he married Edna Herbst in McCook, Nebraska and she preceded him in death on October 17, 1995. He was an estimator, salesman and secretary of Central Nebraska Millwork Company and later the Chief Progress Engineer during the construction of the Naval Ammunition Depot, Hastings, Nebraska. He then became the Architectural Engineer in the Engineering and Design Division at the Naval Ammunition Deport for sixteen years. For 7 ½ years, he was the Construction Management Engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation at Farwell Irrigation. He was a member of First United Methodist church, since June 1, 1941 and served on the Board of Trustees. He was a City Councilman for 2 years and Mayor of Hastings for 3 years. He was also a 10 year member of the Board of Public Works, Masonic Lodge No. 317 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Tehama Temple, United Commercial Travelers, AARP and a life member of P.T.A. Bill enjoyed life, loved people, his church and his lodge affiliation. He loved being able to serve the citizens of Hastings as Councilman and Mayor. He was a long time Republican Party supporter.

William f. Gettmann was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edna and 5 brothers.
