William Hathaway

July 11, 1921 — April 17, 2013

Hastings resident, William "Bill" C. Hathaway, 91, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, May 2, 2013; 3:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Thursday, May 2, 2013; 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

William was born July 11, 1921 in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John H. & Edith E.E. (Anderson) Hathaway. He graduated from Emporium High School in Emporium, Pennsylvania in 1939. He resided in Emporium, Pennsylvania until joining the Air Force during World War II. He later graduated from Parks Air College at St. Louis University. William served with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 - 1945 and was a Major in the U.S.A.F. Reserves. He married Mildred Towner on January 17, 1945; she preceded him in death on February 17, 2000. Bill was a long time resident of Hastings, Nebraska where he was a pilot for Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company for 30 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hastings, Hastings Scottish Rite Bodies, Blue Lodge #382 in Emporium, Pennsylvania, life member of Nebraska Trap Shooters Association, life member of Amateur Trap Shooting Association, and V.F.W. Post #10562.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; and brothers, Howard Hathaway and John H. Hathaway, Jr.
