William Melvin "Bill" Reed

Clay Center resident William Melvin Reed, 77, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Grand Island, NE. 

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings with Chaplain Lisa Ewald officiating. Burial with military rites by the Clay Center Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Start Over Rover.

William was born November 27, 1946, in Hastings, NE to Melvin and Mary (Lawson) Reed. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1965. William served in the Nebraska National Guard. He married Betty Dimmitt on October 24, 2004. William worked for several body shops until he retired in 2018. 

William was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brett Reed; and sister and brother-in-law, Janet & Jerry Hesterwerth.
