Bill was born in Hastings, Nebraska on December 11, 1955 to Evadne and William B. Vaughan and brought home to Blue Hill. His grandfather, Bryon B. Vaughan ran The Blue Hill Leader, starting Vaughans Printers as a spin off printing company of the paper in 1927. His father, Bill, and his Uncle Tom Vaughan eventually brought Vaughans Printers to Hastings in 1959, when Bill started kindergarten. In 2005, Bill Jr. took over the printing business and hit the 90th year of the printing in 2017.

Bill loved to be outdoors all of his life and had a natural ability in swimming, baseball, football and most physical activities. From an early age, he had a keen interest in hunting, camping and building things. He was an Eagle Scout in high school, traveling to PoudreCanyon and other hiking trips throughout Colorado as a teenager with his troop. This component of his life never left him as he was currently on the Board of the Overland Trails Council for the Boy Scouts of America serving our region.

Bill played football on a scholarship to Kearney State College, studying Biology and Engineering until he was injured on the team and decided he wanted to build tunnels working in the dynamite division in Loveland, Co. hired by Peter Kiewit Mining Corp. He would later have his own contracting companies and build many beautiful homes in the Littleton and surrounding area of Denver. He loved the mountains, was an excellent skier, and played the songs of John Denver and that era with ease, taking his guitar almost everywhere he lived. Bill would later hold contracting jobs for the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, Allright Parking in Denver and become the Lead Contractor in charge of building the Medical Center in Fort Hays, Kansas. In 2000, he came home to be closer to his aging parents and started working alongside his father at Vaughans Printers.

Over the years, he had also been a member of Rotary and the Masons.

What stands out most about Bill and his adult life in Hastings, was his love for his two gregarious daughters, his ultra conservative political views, yet his ability to talk and chat with just about anyone, and finally, his obsession with fishing. This activity was more than a sport or hobby for Bill. It was a competitive, mindful, beautiful challenge and endeavor that never got old for him, which bonded and endeared him to many friends in the fishing clubs. When he was near the water or in his boat, he was completely at home

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Survivors include his two daughters, Maggie Vaughan, 23, (mother - Lori Gingrich - Hergott) of Hastings and Kali Vaughan, 19, (mother - Julee Thompson) of Kansas City, MO, and his sister Mary Vaughan of Hastings and Santa Rosa, Ca.
