Hastings resident Wilma M. Nowka, age 99, of The Homestead, died Friday, June 4, 2004 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Wednesday, June 9, 2004; 10:30 A.M. at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Village with Rev. Neil Vik officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, all in Hastings, Nebraska.
Wilma Myrl (Brown) Nowka was born May 19, 1905 to Myron Bentley and Clara (North) Brown in rural Adams County. She graduated from Hastings High School and Wesleyan College, Lincoln, Nebraska. She taught school in a rural school northeast of Hastings. On June 5, 1926, she married Martin S. Nowka they farmed north of Hastings, moving to Trumbull in 1936 and in 1955 to Hall County, Doniphan, Nebraska. On December 22, 1965, her husband died. She then taught schools in rural Hall County, Grand Island and Doniphan. She moved to Hastings and continued substitute teaching in Hastings schools. She retired and moved to Good Samaritan Village in 1984, later moving to Sunnyside and Homestead. She was a homemaker, farm helper and a school teacher. She was a past member of Hastings Christian Women's Club.
Mrs. Nowka was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Martin, one son, Milton Nowka and one brother, Carl Brown.

Memorial may be given to Hastings Christian Women's Club Or Salvation Army
