Winston Olson

May 3, 1921 — June 11, 2005

Life-long resident of rural Hastings Winston Atly Olson, 84, died Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village, Hastings.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Tuesday, June 14, 2005; 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings with Rev. Jim Miller and Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings.

Winston A. Olson was born May 3, 1921 in Hastings, Nebraska to Atly & Elsie (Patterson) Olson. He lived his entire life on the Olson family farm eight miles northeast of Hastings, in Clay County. He was the third Olson generation to farm the family land after his grandfather Andrew Olson emigrated from Sweden in 1874 and founded the farm in 1877. He graduated from Clay County District 17 Grade School in 1935 and from Hastings High School on June 1, 1939. He worked briefly at Hesteds and Brown-McDonalds prior to returning to farming full-time in 1941. He married Nellie Corinne Warren of Giltner on November 30, 1947. He joined Grace Church on April 21, 1935 and remained a member his entire life. He was a member of the Christian Builders Sunday School class, sang in the choir and served on various committees. He also served a six-year term on the Trumbull School District 101 Board, was a 38 year member of the Leicester Township Board in Clay County and sang with the Hastings Barbershop Chorus of the Plains for many years.

Winston A. Olson was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial may be given to Grace United Methodist Church Family Life Center
Or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research

VISITATION: Mon: 6-13-05 1pm-9pm
Tues: 6-14-05 1 hour prior to service at church
