Wuanita Butler

Hastings resident, Wuanita Irene Butler, 97, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at The Kensington, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Service will be Monday, December 22, 2014; 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Charles M. Webster officiating. Private family burial will be prior to the memorial service in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Book signing will be Saturday, December 20, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Sunday, December 21, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or Central Community College Foundation, Hastings, Nebraska.

Wuanita Irene (Cochran) Butler was born to Clara (Hyatt) and William McKinley Cochran on December 21, 1916 on a farm near Lenox, Iowa. At age 12 her father passed away. Her mother remarried and they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln High School and then went to work at Russell Stover Candy Company and Miller & Paine Department Store while attending the University of Nebraska. She met Donovan G. Butler and they were married in Lincoln, Nebraska in August 14, 1937, then they moved to Chicago, Illinois while Don finished mortuary science school, from there they moved back to Lincoln, Nebraska where Don worked for Roper & Sons Mortuary. They owned and operated a number of funeral homes in Nebraska, Iowa, and Tampa, Florida. An opportunity became available which allowed them to purchase the Livingston Brothers Funeral Home in Hastings, Nebraska in 1946. Wuanita was an active member of First Presbyterian Church since 1946, 50 year member and a past President of Chapter DA PEO. Wuanita loved needlework and bridge and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wuanita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donovan G. Butler; and son-in-law, Paul Crozier.
